Alma School Rd, Suite 100, Chandler, AZ 85224 Course Description: This two-hour in-person session examines the inclusion of Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD) in the DSM-5-TR (2023). Through historical review, critical analysis, and applied learning, participants will explore how grief has been framed as a diagnosable condition. The course offers space to consider the impact of PGD's inclusion, particularly the risk of medicalizing grief. Emphasis will be on trauma-informed, humanistic, and grief-affirming practice (TM). Learning Objectives: Trace bereavement exclusion history and grief’s framing as mental illness in the DSM Critically analyze arguments for/against PGD’s inclusion Understand diagnostic criteria, origins, and social implications of PGD Identify ethical and clinical strategies to support grievers under this model Target Audience: Licensed helping professionals working with grieving children and families Content Level: Intermediate – graduate-level background required; no prior grief training necessary Fee & CE Credit: Cost: $100 (includes 2 CE credits) Register at www.swigts.com Participants receive 2 CE credits upon completion of the evaluation and sign-out. Accreditation: Southwest Institute for Grief and Trauma Studies (SWIGTS), 1913, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 05/06/2025-05/06/2028. Social workers completing this course receive 2 continuing education credits. If you cancel your registration 72 hours prior to an event your fee will be refunded, less a 3% processing fee. There are no refunds for cancellations received 48 hours prior to the date of the training or later. No-Shows are still due and payable in full.
