This live webinar offers a clinical overview of traumatic grief, covering theory, intervention, and ethical considerations. Participants will explore the evolving conversation around diagnosis, including the recent addition of Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD) to the DSM, and gain tools for supporting the traumatically bereaved. Learning Objectives: Review historical and modern grief theory and define grief, bereavement, and traumatic grief. Understand effects of traumatic grief and analyze the controversy around PGD. Apply evidence-based clinical interventions for clients experiencing traumatic grief. Target Audience: Licensed professionals providing clinical services to grieving clients. Content Level: Intermediate. Requires graduate-level education; no prior grief training required. Format & Content: Two hours of didactic instruction via Zoom with slides. Topics include: definitions, grief models, PGD controversy, clinical research, and grief-affirming interventions. Fee & CE Credit: Cost: $100 (includes 2 CE credits). Participants must attend the full session, complete a course evaluation (password provided at close), and sign out. Certificates are emailed within 10 business days of evaluation submission. Tech Requirements: Zoom access with internet connection. Compatible with Windows XP+, macOS 9+, Android 4.0+. Browsers: Chrome, Firefox, IE 9+. Broadband required. Accreditation: Southwest Institute for Grief and Trauma Studies (SWIGTS), 1913, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 05/06/2025–05/06/2028. Social workers completing this course receive 2 continuing education credits.
